Welcome to the MCC Blog

[Image Description: Four MCC members wade across a river. In the background, there are hillsides covered in gold from the quaking aspens, and deep green pine trees.]

Hitch Farewell

An overhead view of taco ingredients like beef, tortillas, lettuce, salsa, etc on a picnic table

I walked cross the bridge
to the wind river
But somethin bout it felt a little cursed somehow
And I left my food there
At the bear hang tree
Then I looked around
And saw poison ivy

Oh, those five little leaves
Flowers of yellow haze
Sulfur cinquefoil
You’ve taken over the state
Summer sun beating down
It’s a really hot place
I can feel the sweat beading down my face

And now we’re out here
and the project partners ghosting us
But it’s all okay
If I river diiiiiiipppppp

Cuz there we are again in our herbicide packs
Still don’t know the weeds of Idaho
But cinquefoil there’s no lack
Our crew of three
Bittersweet, we bid this hitch farewell

I was double-packed up
on the side of a cliff
Something bout a rock made for a real good slip

Now we’re trying to cook dinner
But the stove burnt down
We don’t have any gas
For the dragonfly around

And we were tossing Gwen the car keys
Drive to Riggins for gas, please
Sadly none around
But while we are in town

We were looking for a burger
But the server
He killed Liv's hopes and dreams
He was a man with no front teeth

Every day is awesome
but comes with another problem
Like the heeeaaat
Or where’s these blackberries

And then we wondered why we bought those
beef creations for our tacos, it’s a shame
We should have gotten cake

But we’re still out here
Project partners still ghosting us
But it’s all okay
If I river diiiippppp

Cuz there we are again
In our herbicide packs
Still don’t know the weeds in Idaho
But cinquefoil, there’s no lack
Rattlesnakes
give a shake,
I bid this hitch farewell

Cuz there we are again
Hiking our packs up a hill
Better mix down at the river
Cuz there’s nowhere else to fill
Cheatgrass shoes
Sky so blue
I bid this hitch farewell

Hey, at least we vanquished our curse
When Cassie moved her tent
Cut Gwen’s hair with llama scissors
Down the river, it was sent
Allergies
Make us sneeze
I bid this hitch farewell

And in order to get passed
You must answer first this riddle
What’s blue or pink or white as you leapfrog to the middle
Without the second half it’s light
I can’t guess it at all all all

I was down at the sand
Building castles and sand boobies
When I looked up to seeeee

A man at the boat launch
He pulled his pants right down past his knees
And I saw both his cheeks

We’re up and down the same trail
Hopefully, these plants don’t go to seed
Don’t need more skeleton weed

At the confluence of the wind and salmon
A never slowing, ever flowing creek
Better than a box fan for sleep

Then Ariana joined us on the 5th day
At our frontest of front countries, so they say
And when she finally found us crossin the bridge
We told her of our hitch entire
Somehow with two new stoves acquired
We still can’t make a fire

Time flies by
It’s like I like sprayin weeds
I get excited for the thistle
And blackberry trees

After sun shirt days
And nights without a stove
Now I’ll pack up my tent
And drive down gravel roads

I leave a piece of me
In that very first hitch
I’ll remember it fondly
But it was kind of a witch

I’ll remember this
But I bid this
hitch Farewell

Cuz there we are again
Wishing we were on a boat
Gotta go dig Gwen a hole
As her soup comes up her throat

River jump
She’s back up
I bid this
Hitch farewell

Crew of three
Bittersweet

Our very first hitch
Rattlesnakes
Give a shake
Our very first hitch
Cheatgrass shoes
Sky so blue
Our very first hitch
Farewell

And leaders should not
Give in to peer pressure
Use conservative judgment around water activities

But I’m sure back in Grangeville
They have a cure
For a rattlesnake bite
Or rock jump maladies

And when the kestrel reads one oh two
And the weeds are in the sun
What’s a crew to do

But when it’s all said and done
I remember it all as fun
And all the stories I can tell
I bid this hitch farewell

Finally, we saw a mountain goat on the road, farewell
