Welcome to the MCC Blog

Bloodcurdling Backcountry

Crew members stand in a dark campsite, holding tools and looking scared.

While dreaming, I heard a dog whimpering in the night. Turns out, when I awoke, the crying was in reality. Confused and half awake, I took in my surroundings. The night sky was echoing through my tent, and the sounds of breaking twigs were becoming louder. All of a sudden, a creature bumped into the side of my tent and ran down the hillside. I unzipped my rain fly and heard Cody next to me, who was just as confused as I was. Julien and Ellie came over, concerned, wondering what had just happened. As we were congregating, the sounds of Eli and Declan yelling became prevalent. The four of us gripped our bear spray and rushed over to their tents. It proved the be the creature that hit my tent, also targeted Eli and Declan. Luckily, we were all okay, and the creature ran off into the night. The sounds of howling rang through the canyon. To end this madness, we began to make as much noise as possible to hopefully drive it away from our camp (aka yelling and banging pots together). That night, our crew slept with bear spray in one hand and single jacks in the other.
