Three crew leaders and one MCC staff member sit by a log they are about to push off the trail.

What a week (9 days, really)! The stoke was high with this hitch. The weather certainly had a path of it's own, with rain, sleet, and snow gracing us each day. Regardless of Mother Nature and her trials, this crew of leads had a fantastic time digging up dirt. We awoke each morning at 6 AM and the day only get better from there! A hike began our work day, a short (long) strenuous trek up a hill (mountain). The phrase each morning was "BE BOLD START COLD!" The top of the mountain welcomed sweaty bodies every morning and thus we began our work! We learned how to dig tread and all the intricacies of digging dirt. Who would have thought it was such a complex venture, but with hinges, back slopes, toes, even surfaces, and rocks... so many rocks... the work can be tiring. Each day this cycle repeated, with crosscut training thrown in as well as some rock chucking. Though we were tired, WOW did that trail look amazing at the end of the hitch! The project partner was pleased, and we have big stinky smiles on our faces.
