Moose on the Trail!

A photo of a young moose poking its head above some sagebrush.

It was our second week up at Roosevelt Meadows and we were ready for all the big work to start. We had previously tackled the more simple drains and reroutes the previous week before, so all that was left was to construct turnpikes, rock culverts, and water bars. It was a daunting week as many of us have never constructed any of these trail features before.

But, we got to learn new things and gain more experience, and after our hard days of work, we got to take some creek baths in the Little Grey's River. On our third day thunderstorms were rolling in one after another and we were waiting them out in the truck. Then, we noticed that there was something coming down the trail. It was a young moose! It was really cool to see it, especially as it came super close and walked right next to our truck. Also, we now had another reason not to start hiking. We also saw many tracks like grizzly and black bear, moose, elk, deer, and wolf. Overall, it was a good week with beatiful views, hard work and fun.
