Field Program

End Of An Era

A crew member walks down the trail in a misty and foggy burn area.

This hitch marked our last eight days in the Beartooth range for the season, and our second one on the Face of the Mountain Trail. Our work contributes to reopening and re-establishing the trail after a wildfire in 2021 burned the area. The ecology is returning in full force: raspberries gave us tasty trail snacks during our breaks, and bees and butterflies were working hard to pollinate the area.

We spent our workdays digging tread, working our minds and bodies hard. Some of us passed the time listening to music or audiobooks- with daily book reviews during evening meetings- some of us talked to each other, and some of us pondered our pasts and futures with the sun warming our necks.

We're grateful for our seven hitches in the Beartooths!
