Mcc Crew 2 Pinedale Hitch

MCC Crew 2 went to Pinedale, WY. Working with BLM, we revamped the Scab Creek campgrounds and fencing. These campgrounds are commonly used by travelers and backpackers looking to take on the CDT. After taking out the campsite and fencing work in one day, we turned toward the trail. For the next six days, we started our mornings hiking 10 miles up the Wind River range with 2000 feet of elevation gain. We logged out thirty-seven trees that were previously blocking the trail from being used and causing new social trails to be made. On the final day, we moved fourteen logs with the help of a wildland firefighter and ACE intern. Throughout the hitch, the crew intimately learned the ins and outs of timeless cross-cutting techniques (deepcut). We were also able to actively practice our bear safety protocol when we spotted a black bear in the tree on our hike! All in all, the hitch was physically demanding but an incredibly valuable learning experience.
