Exploring The Sandpoint Ridge Trail

A crew walks away, along a meadowed ridgeline.

For our fourth hitch, we traveled back to the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, focusing on the Sandpoint Ridge Trail located near the Judith River. As a chainsaw trail crew, our main focus was creating a wide enough corridor for humans and animals. This helps to ensure that this trail would be accessible for recreationists. This trail offered amazing, breathtaking views that all of us were enamored by, and had a variety of trees and wildflowers throughout that brought a vivid life to the land. This trail is home to Whitebark Pines, a keystone species that has become endangered. Getting to see this Pine flourish in the forest surrounding the Trail was very special, and I think it gave the entire crew some hope for the future health of the species.

Despite the long hike in and out, we were able to clear this trail by the end of our hitch. I am super proud of all of our hard work, especially our teamwork, and I feel very blessed to get to call a trail like this a former "office". Three cheers for another successful hitch in the Lewis and Clark Forest!
