After the 3 1/2 mile hike up East Rosebud Trail, we set up camp and got to work. On the way to our worksite, we lopped the trees and plants encroaching on the trail. Once we got there, we began setting up explosives, prying and moving rocks, and crushing large and small rocks to fill in and raise the trail in order to prevent the creek from flooding into the trail. It also improves the trail's tread for both equestrian and foot traffic.
As we worked, I looked at my crew members, seeing how hard they were working and how much effort they were putting into the trail. It pushes, inspires, and challenges me to do the same. I value that I can be a part of a crew that is continually seeking to grow, to work hard, and to challenge each other to do the best we can and make the trail safer and more accessible.
Each day of the hitch was both challenging and a treat to be working with such genuine people on such a meaningful and important job. Working together to improve such a beautiful trail is so rewarding, and I am reminded every day of why I chose to be a part of this.
