For MCC Crew #2, the BLM Twin Falls Restoration project was the third hitch of the season. Together with another MCC crew, we combed a patch of forest for Douglas-fir trees. We plucked, lopped, and sawed all we encountered -- provided they were under two inches dbh (diameter at breast height). The project served to promote Aspen groves, which benefit local wildlife, and to reduce the potential for particularly strong wildfires. The crews, working as one unit, moved across a steep hillside in a line formation to ensure that all patches were covered.

At camp, the crews experienced thousands of Mormon Crickets (truly katydids), snow in June, hot coolers, cold fingers, stinging nettles, and beautiful flowers. Nights were spent in relaxation, enjoying each other's company. In the end, we were able to accomplish what we set out to do and go home pleased.
