Mindful Trailing

A view down into a meadow

Walking along the trail you can see the remnants of its history. Rotted out check steps, turnpikes, and water bars. These structures we install don’t last forever, but they last long enough to keep the trail walkable.

Walking to the boundary we can see the work that crews made. It’s easy to learn what works and what doesn’t. Occasional drain clearing, re-digging water bars, checking on muckways and turnpikes.

You can see where water goes if the drains are in the right place. You would hope that your work is noticed by other working trail crews. But at the same time, hope that it goes unnoticed because that means it gets the job done.
