Crew Lead Cabin Retreat 2024

After two weeks of powerpoint presentations, everyone was incredibly eager to get out into the field for Cabin Retreat. While it was cold and crisp our spirits remained enlightened and we were excited to learn and connect with each other.

Wildlife sightings preceded a smooth camp setup and cultivated a solid foundation for the days to come. The first night we ate a delicious curry dinner and joined together in the main cabin for personal stories. As the first half of the leaders and staff told their stories, a new sense of respect and curiosity for each other saturated the room.

The next day, the real fun began! Fueled by a hearty breakfast and grainy hot coffee we prepared ourselves for our reflection period and low ropes activity. Gathered at the top of camp we silently pondered the question of, what reflection looked like to us individually. Putting pen to paper in the tranquil environment fostered, for some, a moment of true inspiration to answer the questions in honesty. Alternatively, having an open mind and the courage to be heard during the three different low rope courses was key as we worked as a group to tackle each challenge. Our individual skills as budding leaders were put to the test as we navigated intuitive listening and respecting boundaries for our fellow leaders.

Having crushed the trip as a whole, there is a newfound confidence in ourselves and as a group as we step into our formal roles as MCC Leaders. Though there is more leg work ahead of us, there is an air of capability and enthusiasm surrounding the group that will propel us to meet any challenge that comes our way.
