Skipping Rocks in Glacier National Park

Two crew members stand on a rocky shoreline skipping rocks.

After working with the Glacier NP Weeds crew for a few weeks, we had been told over and over that the best skipping rocks at Lake McDonald were on the Northern shore. None of us really thought much of this, so we kept skipping the small, round rocks that we could find on the Southern shore near the Apgar campground after work.

One morning, we got the directive to head to the shore which was supposedly home to these legendary rocks. Within five minutes of walking around and scoping out where we would be working for the day, I could already tell that these would be good rocks. I skipped a few before we started working with great success. At lunchtime, all the members of our crew as well as our project partners, the Glacier crew, were skipping rocks with some even racking up 11 skips. It rocked.
