Beaver Signs

A crew drags a large log towards a stream

Back in South Dakota our crew worked in concert with The Nature Conservancy on land used by Wild Ideas Buffalo Co. We soon found that the prairie areas we were working to restore were full of old signs of beaver activity. Trees felled and limbed by teeth, beaver bones, and vestiges of old damns. We got to work throwing many of these trees into the river, making us all feel like we were truly doing "beaver work." It was extremely exciting because with a little extra work and luck, these beavers could return to pick up where we left off and help the land return to a native and stable cycle.
