Adventures of Knapweed Mountain

A crew makes goofy poses in front of a rock face, with a small stream in the background.

This past hitch in West Yellowstone was one for the books. Right off the bat, the weather took us for a turn. After pulling knapweed for an hour, torrential rain, thunder, lightning, and hail brought an end to our first day and ushered us into our cabin. The Nez Perce Patrol Cabin was a welcome sight after our summer of tents. Complete with bison skulls and weird sounds in the night, it helped us come closer for our last hitch. During the days, our project partner Allison and her wily crew of misfits led us up steep mountainsides for pulling and along pullouts for spraying. Despite the sweltering heat some days, we stayed upbeat through comradery and shared lunches at the NPS office picnic table. Allison introduced us to invasive hoary alyssum and snipping bull thistle heads. We experienced beautiful sights and great company.
