Building Mesic Dams in South Dakota

This week our crew drove down to Hot Springs, South Dakota to build a diverse array of Mesic structures. From Beaver Dam Analogs made of sod and willow, all the way to a Rock Run-Down with a Zoonie bowl at the bottom(shown in the photo). Our crew got deep into the mud, putting in these structures on land owned by ranchers. Our project partners, The Nature Conservancy, strategically planned out the placement of these structures so that the riparian areas will be restored to their historic health and biodiversity.
