Mesic Beginnings

Crew members build a rock beaver mimicry dam

This season the crew is starting off strong working in the South Dakota sun helping build beaver mimicry dams, i.e Mesic Restoration. A brand new project, the crew is learning day by day how to build strong structures to stop erosion and restore the natural vegetation of the gulches. There are 2 main structures the crew is learning to build; rock based and wood based. Needless to say both are a muddy affair and these big kids are loving the muck.

"Building these dams makes me feel like a kid again. I love the mess, and I love learning about the impact of these structures in the ecosystem even more."
-Oakley

"It's really fun to work with agencies and landowners to help improve the watershed."
-Sean

"Learning hands on about sustainable agriculture practices is rewarding."
-Max
