MAY 11, 2021 UPDATE

MCC is posting this update as our newest group of corps members joins our programs over the coming weeks. We are encouraged by the progress made in Montana and across the nation in mitigating the spread of the COVID virus through vaccination efforts and continued use of safety measures. We want to share with you some thoughts about MCC’s position on COVID-19 vaccinations.  MCC works hard to ensure the safety and well-being of our participants at all times.  Early in the pandemic we implemented protocols to mitigate the risks COVID-19 posed to our corps members, staff, and partners, and we’ve seen that these practices work. We remain just as vigilant going into our 2021 season.

At this point in time in the U.S., vaccines are available to all adults that choose to get vaccinated. Starting on May 11, the Pfizer vaccine has been approved by the CDC for youth 12 and older. MCC is not requiring our AmeriCorps or youth participants, nor our staff, to obtain a vaccination. However, we are strongly encouraging everyone to get vaccinated if possible in the interest of your fellow corps members and our staff and partners. Though our programs have the benefit of being largely conducted outdoors where the risk of virus transmission is low, our work and travel may still bring us into close quarters for extended periods. Thus, vaccination paired with adherence to CDC guidance for COVID mitigation provides the safest service environment. Also, the nature of your service has you coming in and out of multiple communities. With the majority of our participants vaccinated, MCC will be able to operate our programs more effectively, efficiently, and at the highest safety level possible. With diligence, we can help you engage every day with your fellow members or host site partners.

For corps members needing assistance with obtaining a COVID vaccine after joining our programs, please contact your local program supervisor to discuss how MCC may support you.  If and when you are vaccinated, please have your vaccination card with you.  Thank-you!

We look forward to engaging you in MCC programs this summer, and I promise you an excellent adventure with purpose.
