Jim Burchfield | Missoula, MT

Jim Burchfield | Missoula, MT

Jim is a devoted forester and sociologist. For many years he has researched how people interact with the forest, and is always cultivating better ways for humans and nature to act harmoniously together. He began his journey in environmental stewardship in 1973 by joining the Peace Corps in Guatemala, where he started school gardens in over 30 rural schools in Mayan and Indian communities. He received his PhD in natural resources from the University of Michigan in 1991, and recently retired from the University of Montana as Dean of the College of Forestry and Conservation. Jim’s son served as a crew member with MCC in 2006.  In his spare time Jim enjoys volunteering in his community and going on adventures with his wife.
