Crew Leader

Tools to Make a Difference!

The MCC is hiring Field Crew Leaders who are ready to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others through an intensive stewardship service program.

The mission of the Montana Conservation Corps is to equip young people with the skills and values to be engaged citizens who improve their communities and environments. Serving as a Field Crew Leader with Montana Conservation Corps will have a life long impact not only for you, but also for the communities and landscapes you serve. With the MCC, you’ll discover new abilities in yourself and the enduring self-confidence to effectively lead groups toward accomplishing even the most challenging tasks. In the end, it is your commitment to serving others - starting with your crew - that yields the most satisfaction, and the greatest fun.

The intensive MCC Leadership Development Program will provide you with all of the training and practice you need to succeed. The first three-months of your service term will be spent training in six competencies: communication, teaching/coaching, service leadership, crew management, technical/outdoor safety skills, and administration. Specialized workshops include a two-week technical skills field camp, Wilderness Advanced First Aid, defensive driving, and advanced leadership skills. Our leaders practice these skills on diverse conservation and community projects throughout their service year.

Upon successful completion of the Leadership Development Program in May, you are your co-leader will develop and manage your crew of four to five corpsmembers during the 24-week project season. Crews will delve into the meaning of service while helping solve critical wildlife habitat challenges; get their hands dirty creating safe trails and maintaining access to remote wilderness areas, national parks, grasslands, and forests; and support community non profit organizations through volunteer service projects. Crew life and active citizenship are an integral part of the MCC experience. The challenge of living and working with a diverse crew of individuals provides members and leaders alike the skills and knowledge to create the change they wish to see in the world!
